UMA VIAGEM DE SONHO À TAILÂNDIA
AO VIETNAME, A MACAU,
ÀS FILIPINAS E À INDONÉSIAAproveitando o último período de férias do ano de 2007, fizemos uma viagem de sonho a vários países do oriente. Começámos por Phuket, na Tailândia, onde estivemos pele terceira vez. Desta vez ficámos no centro da cidade turística de Patong, no Hotel Patong Resort, pois o Hotel Le Meridien, onde nos hospedámos nos dois anos anteriores, não tinha quartos disponíveis na altura.
Patong é uma cidade turística que não só recuperou completamente dos enormes danos causados pelo tsunami, como se desenvolveu imenso. As suas ruas à noite estão profusamente iluminadas, com lojas do comércio, cafés, bares, restaurantes e com enormes discotecas.
Visitámos algumas discotecas e constatámos que nelas havia muitas garotas e muita animação. Patong, que no ano passado só tinha uma discoteca, tem agora cinco novas discotecas, novos bares e novos restaurantes. Patong está a desenvolver-se freneticamente e é hoje um dos lugares turísticos mais apetecidos do mundo.
Tem uma praia maravilhosa, tem óptimos hotéis e restaurantes, tem muitas casas de massagens e tem uma animação nocturna absolutamente excepcional. Um italiano que há dezanove anos passa as suas férias em Patong disse-nos estar verdadeiramente espantado com o desenvolvimento de Patong, especialmente nos últimos anos.
A seguir a Phuket, voámos para Hanói, no Vietname, onde estivemos dois dias completos. O principal objectivo da nossa visita a Hanói era conhecer a baía de Ha Long, que é considerada um dos cinco lugares mais belos do mundo. Nós fizemos portanto o percurso até Ha Long Bay a partir de Hanói, que fica a cento e sessenta quilómetros de Ha Long Bay.
Em Ha Long Bay fizemos um cruzeiro, tendo ocasião nesse cruzeiro de apreciar a espectacular paisagem da baía, com as suas inúmeras ilhas-colinas plantadas sobre o mar. O barco avançava lentamente por entre as formações rochosas, que de mais perto se via que eram todas verdejantes. O deslumbrante cruzeiro na baía de Ha Long terminou com a visita a duas grutas, a Heaven Cave e a gruta em que foi rodada uma sequência do filme 007, O Amanhã Nunca Morre.
No dia seguinte fizemos o city tour da capital do Vietname, tendo visitado a velha Hanói e o templo de Confúcio e tendo assistido a um espectáculo no Water Puppet Theatre. Hanói não é uma cidade muito bonita. Algumas das suas ruas têm os passeios degradados e cheios de lixo. Quanto ao trânsito, maioritariamente constituido por motocicletas, é verdadeiramente caótico. E nós tivemos uma divertida experiência da balbúrdia do trânsito, pois a primeira parte do nosso city tour foi feita na motocicleta do nosso guia.
Hanói é hoje uma cidade com uma grande quantidade de turistas, graças à proximidade de Ha Long Bay, mas evidentemente que não é uma cidade tão bonita como é Saigão. Mas tal como em Saigão, os hotéis de cinco estrelas de Hanói são fabulosos e têm dancings com garotas para atrair os turistas. À semelhança do governo da China, o governo comunista do Vietname já abandonou o marxismo e aposta agora no turismo, no capitalismo e no progresso. E a língua estrangeira ensinada nas escolas é o inglês e não o russo ou o chinês.
A etapa seguinte da nossa viagem foi Macau, que é uma cidade que durante o dia é muito bonita e que à noite é um festival de luz e de cor. Macau é hoje uma cidade muito importante, pois tem trinta e dois casinos e por isso mesmo é considerada a Las Vegas do oriente. Nós visitámos um dos seus casinos mais importantes, o Casino Lisboa, e ficámos espantados com o luxo das suas salas de jogo. Também visitámos o templo da deusa Á Má, que está na origem do nome de Macau.
Em Macau pagam-se poucos impostos e a saúde e o ensino são gratuitos, pois ao governo quase que bastam as receitas do jogo para equilibrar as finanças. Em Macau visitámos as ruínas da Igreja de São Paulo e o Fortaleza do Monte, incluídas no centro histórico, que é património mundial da humanidade da UNESCO. E ainda passámos por outros sítios ligados a Portugal.
Mas é evidente que Portugal está a desaparecer de Macau. Aliás, não encontrámos ninguém em Macau a falar português. Nem sequer ouvimos a nossa língua num restaurante português onde jantámos, em que os pratos são portugueses, mas as línguas são o chinês e o inglês.
A seguir visitámos Manila, a capital das Filipinas. Manila tem uma enorme área metropolitana, a Metro Manila, constituída por várias cidades, com um total de vinte e cinco milhões de habitantes. A cidade de Manila não é particularmente bonita e nem sequer é uma típica cidade oriental, pois a maioria esmagadora da população das Filipinas é católica.
Os lugares mais interessantes de Manila são a baía de Manila e a cidade antiga fortificada de Manila, a chamada cidade intramuros, com vestígios da colonização espanhola e da luta dos filipinos pela independência. Aliás, o nome do país, Filipinas, tem a sua origem no rei Filipe II de Espanha, que também foi rei de Portugal.
Para terminar esta viagem de sonho ao oriente, estivemos sete dias na ilha paradisíaca de Bali, na Indonésia, noHotel Santika Beach, em Kuta, a trabalhar para o bronze, a nadar e a fazer longas caminhadas nas deslumbrantes praias de Kuta. Chegava enfim ao fim mais uma viagem de sonho por terras do oriente.

A WONDERFUL TRIP TO THAILAND,
VIETNAM, MACAU, PHILIPPINES

Enjoying the last holiday period of 2006, we went to a marvellous journey to South East countries. Firstly, we visited Phuket, in Thailand, where we have already gone for the third time. This time we stayed in the centre of the tourist town of Patong, in the Patong Resort Hotel, therefore the Le Meridien Hotel, where we stayed in the two previous years, did not have available rooms at the time.
Patong is a tourist town that not only recovered completely from the enormous damages because of tsunami as it has truly developed since then. Its streets at night are luxuriously illuminated, with all the commercial stores, coffees, bars, restaurants and with enormous discotheques.
We visited some discotheques and we noticed that there were many girls and much animation. Last year Patong only had a discotheque, now it has five new ones, new bars and new restaurants. Patong has frenetically developed itself and it is, today, one of the most desirable tourist places of the world.
It has a wonderful beach, excellent hotels and restaurants, many houses of massages and it has an absolutely amazing night life ambiance. A forty year old Italian man, who has spent his holidays in Patong, said to feel truly frightened with the development of Patong, especially along these recent years.
After Phuket we flied to Hanoi, in the Vietnam, in where we have stayed for two days. The main goal of our going to Hanoi was to visit the bay of Ha Long, which is considered one of the five most beautiful places in the world. We made therefore the passage to Ha Long Bay from Hanoi, that is nearly one hundred and sixty kilometres from Ha Long Bay.
In Ha Long Bay we made a cruise, having an opportunity to appreciate the spectacular landscape of the bay, with its innumerable island-hills planted on the sea. The boat went slowly among the rocky formations, that closer all seemed so greenish. The flaring cruise in the bay of Ha Long finished with a visit of two caves, the Heaven Cave and the cave where one of 007 Tomorrow Never Dies film sequence was filmed.
In the following day, we made a tour through the capital of Vietnam, having visited the old Hanoi and the temple of Confucius and having seen a show in the Water Puppet Theatre. Hanoi is not a very pretty city. Some of its streets have the pavements in bad shape and full of garbage. About the traffic, in its majority is based on motorcycles, which is truly chaotic. We had an amusing experience of that unusual and chaotic traffic, therefore the first part of our city tour was made on the motorcycle of our guide.
Today, Hanoi is a city with a great amount of tourists, thanks to the proximity of Ha Long Bay, but evidently that it is not so pretty city as Saigon is. But as in Saigon, the five-star hotels of Hanoi are fabulous and have dancing places with girls to attract the tourists. To the similarity of the government of China, the communist government of the Vietnam has already abandoned the Marxism and take now some chances on the tourism, the capitalism and the progress. The only foreign language taught in schools is English and not Russian nor Chinese.
The following destination of our trip was Macau. That is a city that during the day is very pretty, moreover it seems to be a festival of colour and light at night. Today, Macau is a very important city. It has thirty two casinos therefore it is considered the Las Vegas of the east. We visited one of its most important casinos, the Casino Lisboa, and we were astonished by the luxury of its game rooms. We also visited the temple of the Goddess A Ma, which is in the origin of the name of Macau.
In Macau few taxes are paid and health and education are free, therefore to the government almost the money from the game to balance the finances is enough. In Macau we visited the ruins of the Church of S. Paulo and the Fortress of the Mount, enclosed in the historical centre, which is included in UNESCO’s World Heritage. In addition to this we passed through other places related to Portugal somehow.
However, it is clear that Portugal is losing its presence in Macau. By the way, we did not find anybody speaking Portuguese there, not even in a Portuguese restaurant where we had dinner. The recipes are Portuguese but people only speak Chinese or English.
Our next destination was Manila, the capital of the Philippines. Manila has an enormous metropolitan area, the Metro Manila, consisting of some cities, with a total of twenty five million inhabitants. The city of Manila is not particularly pretty and not even it is a typical eastern city, therefore the great majority of the population of the Philippines is catholic.
The most interesting places in Manila are the bay of Manila and the strengthened old city of Manila, the walled city, with vestiges of the Spanish settling and of the fight of the Philippines for independence. By the way, the name of the country Philippines has its origin in king Fillip II of Spain, who also was king of Portugal.
To finish this journey of dreams to the east, we spent seven days in the paradisiacal island of Bali, Indonesia, at Santika Beach Hotel, in Kuta. We took some splendid sunbaths, we swam and we went to long walks along the flaring beaches of Kuta. At last, our wonderful journey through lands of the east reached the end.
